“ Multifunctional monitoring System for fisheries sustainability and green environment”
20% of EU fishing gear is lost at sea. That is 640.000 tons each year.

BREVIUS will out-of-the-box be ALDFG detection and identification system.
More than 80% of fishing activities are not monitored.

BREVIUS will enable the monitoring of almost all fishing activities.
Inovation
Estimates show the world's Oceans may be fishless by 2048 and unmonitored and irresponsible fishing practices are the major culprits behind this potential disaster. Small Scale Fisheries (SSF) fleets, which account for 80% of the entire EU fishing fleet are currently completely unmonitored. In addition, large numbers of fishing gear are lost/abandoned and cannot be tracked for retrieval neither can ownership be traced. These "ghost" nets, often nearly invisible in the dim light, gets caught on a rocky reef or drift in the open sea. This fishing gear causes pollution and is a hazard to marine animals and sea vessels. Brevius is a system consisting of a hydro-acoustic transmitter (pinger or tag), hydro-acoustic receiver buoys with near real-time communication capability based on cellular mobile and satellite networks, and cloud services providing data aggregation, analysis, and delivery. The hydro-acoustic tag is securely attached to fishing gear (nets). The buoy is also attached to the fishing gear. In this way, Brevius identifies ownership, tracks activity, and location of fishing gear. Previously, it was not possible to establish ownership of drifting fishing gear or to track activity. With Brevius, all stakeholders have transparency of fishing activities and location.
Strategy
With state of the art technology and comprehensible solutions for vessel tracking and monitoring, our company EMA under the brand BlueTraker sits firmly at the forefront of global industry leaders. Vessel Monitoring Systems for Fisheries, LRIT and SSAS terminals, BlueSenz range of wireless sensors for fisheries and FuelTraker make the core of our expertise based on hybrid GPRS/Satellite tracking. With expertise in software and hardware development, we have experienced in-house teams for design and manufacture solutions according to the needs of our clients in the demanding fisheries, long-range tracking and ship security sectors of the maritime industry. We are a trusted and valuable partner for many National Fisheries Agencies and countless individual ship owners worldwide. The addition of the Brevius system to our market offering will expand and consolidate our presence in the market. It will also open up new revenue opportunities within an industry where we have so much experience.
Green Deal
Brevius addresses the EU Green Deal objectives through the following goals:
From "farm to fork": Designing a fair, healthy and environmentally-friendly food system. Current fishing practices are not environmentally sustainable with a lot of fishing gear lost and drifting at sea while also washing ashore on Europe's coastlines.
Preserve Europe's Natural Capital: Preserving and restoring ecosystems and biodiversity. If certain fish types are overfished, it affects other animals within the food chain as well. Replenishing fish stocks and cutting down on pollution helps to restore ecosystems and biodiversity.
A Zero-pollution Europe: A zero-pollution ambition for a toxic-free environment. Tracking and locating lost fishing gear reduces pollution in the waters. It also reduces costs associated with cleaning up waste that washes ashore and costs associated with waste being a hazard to sea animals and vessels.
Company
EMA, headquartered in Slovenia is an established company in the field of VMS systems for fisheries. The company develops, manufactures, and markets a range of intelligent, remotely operable satellite communication transponders for fisheries under the trade name BlueTraker.
EMA's solutions apply to a broad range of industries mainly using satellite communication technology to monitor remote locations or moving objects. In addition to several VMS installations, EMA has also provided other turn-key system solutions for maritime markets worldwide.
BlueTraker, BlueSenz, and FuelTraker brands established the company in the field of VMS systems for fisheries and commercial vessel solutions.
